News » Chapter 1 Reflection

How long has it been? I wouldn't say a year, more like 33 weeks. It's amazing to me that how much I've change the comic from visuals to the story. I'm not sure if you've noticed it, but there is many things that were going on at this time.

Story wise: My goal for the comic was comprised of 6 known chapters. Each with a goal in mind. The first chapter was to introduce the conflict and get Mario into the comic. While I don't think the beginning was as well done as I would like it to be. It did serve it's purpose and gave the comic something to work on. It wasn't until page 1-10 that I really gave some thought on the next part of the story. Then I decided to add 15 more pages to chapter one to introduce some action and improve on the whole flow of the comic. To me, it seemed a bit hasty, however after reading over the whole chapter. I believe I did it just right.

Art wise: If anything improved on the first chapter. It would be the overhaul of the art. Now my drawing skills did not improve. What did improve was my editing the page on photoshop. From small details of paneling, to an overhaul of shading. I can't say what exactly what I did. At this point it's a matter of "Is this correct?" I think the best improvement is the appearance of the drawn lines. I draw the comics, and getting them to appear decent on photoshop is a pain the butt. Even with the knowledge I have now, there still a bit of labor to do on the lines.

Now what can we expect in the next chapter? Well, the last chapter was focused on the Mushroom Kingdom. The next chapter will take place in Eagleland, Ness' Hometown (Earthbound). However, it won't rely on the game, it's a mere reference in which the story can use to base on. So if you haven't played the game, don't worry I wont ruin anything for you. I'm very excited for this next chapter because I have learned so much from the last chapter. So it will be funnier, stranger, and more intense then the last chapter.

With that, I hope you enjoy the next chapter of Wibble.

News » Winter Break & Concepts

News being posted in the news section?! How absurd, but true none the less. For those who have stuck loyally with Wibble, and everyone who enjoys a weekly comic, I have terrible news to bring. Wibble is going to have a three week break from the normal schedule. The reason, I'm going home for Christmas, and I'm going to visit my family, relatives, and friends. With the amount of visiting and discussing, there be very little time to work on Wibble. Now don't fret, I promise to prepare the next few comics during that time, and even a special holiday project I wanted to do for so long. The last update of Wibble for this year will be this Friday.

Too Long, Didn't read - Wibble won't update during Christmas Break

<hr>
Now for everyone else, I want to discuss some of the games that influenced Wibble. Yes it is true that Wibble has some of the more popular games characters, doesn't necessarily mean I based my story on them. In fact, the story isn't even based on The Legend of Zelda or Super Mario. Three games that probably influence the comic the most is Mother 3, Quest 64, and Team Fortress 2.

Mother 3, Earthbound's sequel, is the number one game that seems to drive this comic. Yes, I am aware that earthbound is quite popular, and does use some of the characters, but Mother 3 doesn't show it's face in this comic. If you haven't played the game, then go play it. It's THAT good. The plot and humor is light hearted and seems to have a nostalgic touch of childhood innocence to the world. The thing I love about this game, is the further you go into the game, the more strange and dark the world seems to become. As if an invisible force is controlling it all. By the time I've reached the half-way point of the game. I had a feeling of disgust as the world was shaping for the worst. I've never played a game in which I felt emotionally attached to everything, and yet this simple game boy advance game has done something that I never thought a game could achieve. Trust me, I've play ALOT of games in my past, but none could ever portray I had experienced with Mother 3. I'm not going to explain what happens, it's better if you see for yourself. There is an online English patch for the rom for those who want to play this wondrous game.

Quest 64 a wondrous and fun game for the Nintendo 64. Being the first and few RPGs on the system, it would be considered a classic. The game focuses on a young boy who is seeking his father and has to save the world. The plot is quite vauge, and you could even miss it completely if your not careful. Story was never important to the game, it's the gameplay. The world is quite flat, with a few trees, a forest every now and then, a few caves to crawl, and a small handful of dungeons to go through. Although at the time, it was very clean and would make final fantasy 7's world look sad. Now what really makes this game shine is the gameplay. The battles are one of a kind. There is no loading for the battles, it happens immediately. The battle consist of two rings. The outer ring is the battle field, if you step out of it, you flee. The smaller ring is the amount of distance your allowed to move in. The game takes a pseudo real time, in which you and the monsters take turns smacking each other, but when the monster attack, your given a split second chance to move. This gives the player a type of freedom not seen in any other game. This small perk gives this game a fun gameplay that I have yet to come across. I could go on just how fun this game is, it is not without it downsides. Numerous unfinished areas, (lack of) plot, and broken magic system (You can beat the game with two magic spells). However, because this game is fun, I've found myself playing it many times. How this influences the comic is the varied magic attacks help characterized Blue.

The last game, Team Fortress 2 also tributes to Wibble. Not in the sense of the game, but what the game's background is trying to portray. The story needs to be seek out, because it is not really revealed in game. The only hints the player is given is there is two companies fighting each other, and bother seem to have these large evil genius types of lairs at the core of their bases. As if the world is trying to tell that what your fighting/defending may not be the moral right thing to do. The best part is if you do the research online, you can find out the truth behind the game. I'm not going to reveal it for you (that's wikipedia's job). Some people might not want to know the story, but it's just fun trying to uncover the reasons behind this mysterious world. Plus, Team Fortress 2 is one of the best online shooters (Very balanced, continuously updated, and varied learning curves for everyone). It's better than Halo or Call of Duty in my opinion.

So there you have it, some of the logic behind all that madness I like to call Wibble.

News » Team Fortress 2 anyone?

One of my personal favorite online games is Team Fortress 2 both as a game and as an art style. I love every inch of this game, and if I was stranded on an deserted island with one game of choice. It be this this game. I just love the numerous game modes, and the balance between each character. It provides a steady learning curve, and just about anyone can hop in and enjoy this game.

I suck at shading, but one of these days I'll copy the same shading style of this game. For the mean time, I decided to play with multitone shading. The result, I got this

It's not team fortress 2 stlye, but I thought it was pretty neat. No, I'm not changing styles on Wibble (it could easily total up to 40 hours to do a page, and I have a life). I'll get the style down, one of these days.

Anyways, if you guys have a steam and a copy of Team Fortress 2 (which normally goes for $20 but they have periodic deals that drop it down to as low as $2.50!). If you do buy it, get the Orange Box. It contains 3 full games (half-life 2, an awesome game. Portal, a mind bending puzzel game, fun for everyone. And Team Fortress 2). It cost $30, but well worth it. Once you get the game, send me a link to your steam profile! My school has finally fix the server to decent speeds. Which means I'm able to play this wonderful game once more. I'm not the best player on the field, but I know enough to take out most people.

Here's mine for everyone else.
